What is a V-belt Pulley?
The basic structure of the V-belt consists of: basic rubber, a protective sleeve, and steel wire. A base rubber compound gives the V-belt its shape, while a boot protects the belt from heat and impact during motion.
Depending on the application, pulleys can have a keyway, press-fit, or clamped hubs. A keyway is an offset slot or shaft that ensures a tight fit between the pulley and the shaft, while press-fit and clamped hubs attach directly to the shaft by welding or clamping.
V-belt Pulley Features
Unlike flat belts, which have a rectangular cross-section, V-belts have a trapezoidal cross-section and are used for grooved pulleys. This makes them better than flat belt drives for transmitting power over small distances, and it also means they can be combined with other pulley types.
